CREO and ND PIER Host Research Panel - "Scholarship and the Press: How We Disseminate Research"
On Friday, March 5, the Center for Research on Education Opportunity (CREO) and the Notre Dame Program for Interdisciplinary Educational Research (ND PIER) hosted "Scholarship and the Press: How We Disseminate Research"—a research panel featuring members of the press and the academy.
The panel included Matt Barnum from Chalkbeat, Dr. Shaun Harper from the University of Southern California, Dr. Ruth Lopez Turley from Rice University, and Cory Turner from NPR.

About the Panelists
Matt Barnum, Reporter, Chalkbeat. Mr. Barnum covers national education policy and research. Previously he was a staff writer at The 74, the policy director for Educators for Excellence – New York, and a middle school language arts teacher.
Shaun Harper, Ph.D. Provost Professor of Business & Education, University of Southern California. Dr. Harper, whose titles also include executive director of the USC Race and Equity Center, and president of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), studies racial and gender equity and inclusion in educational, corporate, social, and organizational contexts. He also studies Black and Latino male student success in high schools and in higher education, college student engagement, and intercollegiate athletics.
Ruth Lopez Turley, Ph.D. Professor of Sociology, Rice University. Founder of the Houston Education Research Consortium (HERC), a research-practice partnership between Rice University and several Houston area school districts, Dr. Turley also founded the National Network of Education Research-Practice Partnerships (NNERPP), which supports and develops partnerships between research institutions and education agencies throughout the country.
Cory Turner, Correspondent/Senior Editor, NPR Mr. Turner has led several signature reporting projects, including the groundbreaking "School Money" series (2016), "Raising Kings: A Year Of Love And Struggle At Ron Brown College Prep" (2017), and the NPR Life Kit parenting podcast with Sesame Workshop (2019). His co-investigation, "The Trouble With TEACH Grants" (2018), led the U.S. Dept. of Ed. to change the rules of a federal grant program that had unfairly hurt thousands of teachers.
